Primavera Almanzar

Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern

Hello! My name is Primavera Almanzar (She/her/ella) I am a soon-to-be Florida State Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern. I earned my Master's degree in Clinical MentaI Health Counseling from Rollins College. I am passionate about working with adults and adolescents experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, LGBTQIA+ identity concerns, stress, grief, chronic and acute trauma, challenges with self-esteem development, identity exploration, and those navigating their spiritual journey.

In my role as a counselor, I am dedicated to developing a strong and genuine therapeutic relationship with clients by providing a nurturing, safe, judgment-free, and empathetic space for my clients to grow within. I consider it an honor to support my clients through processing some of the most challenging moments, thoughts, and feelings in their lives. My focus is to help my clients on their path toward replacing the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are no longer serving them, with the coping skills and behaviors that help them nurture themselves, achieve their goals, and flourish into the greatest version of themselves.

"Your present circumstances don’t determine where you go; they merely determine where you start." — Nido Qubein

I approach counseling from a humanistic, holistic, person-centered, and strength-based perspective, viewing my clients as the experts in their own lives. Through therapy, I focus on expanding self-awareness, increasing self-compassion, and empowering my clients utilizing mindfulness-based practices, psychoeducation, and cognitive behavioral techniques. I adapt my therapeutic approach to match my client's needs and work with my clients collaboratively while exploring all areas of their identity and wellness. I believe establishing equilibrium between the mind, body, spirit, and societal roles is what allows individuals to foster their well-being and maintain wellness long-term after therapy ends. I utilize this holistic approach with a trauma-informed multicultural lens. As a bilingual, first-generation, Dominican American holding additional marginalized identities, I am aware that our cultural background, age, socioeconomic status, personal experiences, family of origin, identity, ability, and social roles impact us across all areas of our lives. I honor each of my client's identities and provide each individual with the dignity, respect, empathy, validation, support, and affirmation they deserve.

"I will not rescue you. For you are not powerless. I will not fix you. For you are not broken. I will not heal you. For I see you in your wholeness. I will walk with you through the darkness, as you remember your light."- A Medicine Woman's Prayer- Sheree Bliss Tilsley

Outside of my professional life, I am an absolute foodie who enjoys street food, food trucks, dining, and visiting anywhere you can enjoy delicious food. I love experiencing different cultures not only through cuisine but also by traveling and being immersed in the beauty of other countries and cultures. I enjoy spending time with family, friends and my puppy Benji (A black Lab and German Shepard mix), listening to music, learning new languages, weight lifting, yoga, meditation, reading, art, poetry, and cooking (when I am in the mood for it).

Hola! Me llamo Lizette (ella) y me encanta trabajar con personas de color, poblaciones LGBTQ+, y con familias y parejas.

Cita: Cuídate porque realmente te lo mereces. -Kirk Honda

A colleague once told me that therapy with me feels like you're talking to a trusted friend over a cup of coffee. As a Queer, Mexican-American woman, I know the challenge of finding a safe person to talk to. So, everyday I commit to trying to be that person for my clients.

In my therapy room, you're in the driver's seat and I am the passenger. We talk about what you want and when you're comfortable.

If you're thinking about, or ready to move towards healing, I would be honored to join you on that journey.
